Canadian Real Estate Prices Set To Rip Higher After BOC Signal: BMO

Canada’s real estate correction may already be over, as prices return to sharp growth. BMO Capital Markets wrote to investors this week to explain they see higher home prices in the near-term. The bank observed that shortly after the Bank of Canada (BoC) warned of no further rate hikes, buyers returned with bigger budgets and new inventory suddenly dried up. Now the most powerful price indicator is pointing to a sharp increase for home prices in the next few months.

Canada on Track to Smash Last Year's Immigration Record

Canada’s housing crisis might be getting a lot more intense with its population boom accelerating even faster than its previous record. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) data shows permanent residents were up significantly in February. Beating last year’s record growth isn’t easy, but it’s on track to easily surpass the growth.

Canada added 41,000 Jobs in April, Almost all Part-time Work

Canada's economy added 41,000 new jobs in April, mostly part-time work. Statistics Canada reported Friday that the jobless rate held steady in the month at five per cent. Ontario added 33,000 new jobs, while Prince Edward Island added 2,200. Manitoba lost 4,000 jobs, and everywhere else, the job market was little changed.

Almost all the new jobs were part-time, with 47,000 new positions. Full-time work, meanwhile, shrank by 6,200, and self-employment was flat.


As economy recovers from pandemic doldrums, big employers step up push to get back to the office

From a strong job market to the World Health Organization officially downgrading COVID-19's status as a global health emergency, signs that the economy is recovering from the pandemic are everywhere.

But there's perhaps no clearer one, in hollowed-out downtown cores across the country, than the sight of millions of office workers returning to cities after spending much of the past three years working from home.
